It’s common to have multiple emails when you run numerous websites. I think I have about 15 to 20 email accounts, half of which I never use because I’ve lost its passwords. I have one particular email account I use for signing up to website newsletters and online e-zines; I call this my spambox.

On average, my “spam-friendly” email account receives about 30 to 40 new emails a day with online news and promotions. I’m surprised of how many online product launches there are every single day. In addition to reading the latest news in the internet marketing industry, my “spam-friendly” inbox also gives me a chance to practice “being the consumer.”

Put yourself in your customer’s shoes…

If you have a website, product or service online, picture yourself stumbling on your own webpage and surveying your website for the first time. In other words, try to sell yourself on your own product/service - How would you react? Is the sales copy attractive or not? Why would you purchase this product/service rather than the competition’s product/service?

Having a consumer’s state of mind particularly helps you to understand what an individual may be thinking and you can modify your sales pitch (web copy), product or service to help them see things how you do.

And after pitching your product to yourself, ensure the actual product or service is top-quality and includes great customer service after the purchase – customer’s won’t mind paying a bit more for those products.

We’ve all heard the saying, “I’d be rich if I had a nickel for every time…”
…I hear Paris Hilton say, “That’s Hot!”

Frankly, I’d be rich if I had a nickel for every personal MLM (Multi-Level-Marketing) invitation I’ve received this year. Honestly, I’m grateful for each invitation and I’m not against MLM business. I’m just irritated of people labelling me as an MLM’er because I also ‘refer people’ to products.

There seems to be so much confusion as to the difference between MLM and Affiliate Marketing. And personally, while I know some dedicated folks are making heaps of cash with MLM, I’d rather stick to affiliate marketing.

First off, affiliate marketing products and services are ALWAYS FREE to join. MLM’ers are expected to pay a fee to join the program. Affiliate marketers get paid a direct commission for selling a product to users. MLM’ers are required to recruit others into their MLM program. Affiliate marketers can chose and pick whatever products or services are available online (plentiful). MLM’ers can only sell products being sold within their program (Protein Bars, anyone?). Affiliate marketers are paid according to their efforts to market a product. The only ones that get rich at MLM are those who get in early and are at the top.

I’ve also noticed members of MLM businesses seem to consume and purchase their own products in their program. Apparently, soap and laundry detergents are hot selling items. You be the judge.

About a week ago I was experiencing some serious problems with my laptop – the damn thing would repeatedly overheat and automatically shut down within an hour. Irritated and annoyed, I got up and drove to my local Best Buy store in search of a new ‘investment’ and decided a desktop computer would be the way go. After a few minutes of browsing around, I found my ideal computer; an HP Media Center Intel Core 2 Quad, yadda, yadda…A very good investment indeed – an Investment all internet marketers need.

To run your online business, tools are needed for your success. Just like a carpenter and his tool box, your computer is the apparatus that will make you money! Not only is it necessary to have a dependable laptop or desktop in front of you at all times, marketing software and the right tools are crucial to complete certain tasks.

Listed below are a few of the important programs and software I use on a daily basis. If you’re new to internet marketing and online business, you should take note of some of these basic, yet powerful tools to make work much easier for you…

Microsoft Office (Word) – Content is king. Be ready to write pages upon pages of articles, content, newsletters and e-books for your websites. I’d say a quarter of my daily work is done in MS Word.

Audio Recording Software – I personally enjoy using a program called ‘Cool Edit Pro’. Good for creating podcasts and audio files for products or websites.

Camstasia – Internet video is hot! Camstasia will allow you to capture and record everything that happens on your monitor. It’s also a great tool to create video tutorials with.

FTP software – The only way people will see your website is if you upload it first. There is free FTP uploading software online. I personally enjoy using ‘WiseFTP’ and ‘SmartFTP’.

Windows Vista Gadgets – I just started using Windows Gadgets recently. Great for taking side notes, creating ToDo lists, and adding RSS Feeds.

Adobe Photoshop – If you enjoy graphic design or need to quickly rework some graphics on your website, Adobe Photoshop is a must-have tool, especially if you don’t have a graphic designer on call 24/7.

Webpage Design Software - Webpage software like MS Frontpage or Dreamweaver is also a must-have business tool in your virtual business toolbox. As I’ve mentioned, if your working solo and don’t have a graphic or web designer on call, you can take care of the work yourself!

Mozilla Firefox – In my opinion, I think it’s much faster than Internet Explorer.

I can almost vividly remember my first day in my business 101 classroom in high school. Our first exercise that day was to stand up by our desk, introduce ourselves to the class and talk about what we plan to be in the future. You’d hear the common, ‘doctor’, ‘lawyer’, ‘teacher’, then ‘doctor’ again…I really had no profession or trade in mind, so my answer would be, “I plan to be a millionaire.” Not amused, my teacher would asked, “How exactly do you plan on becoming a millionaire?”
“I’ll run my own business.”
“What kind of business will you be in?”

So, what kind of online business do YOU want to be in? And how exactly do you start? If you find it difficult to answer both of these questions, you can begin by asking yourself a series of much simpler questions like, what is your passion or hobby? What do you enjoy doing the most? What do you talk most about with your circle of friends?

Believe it or not, you can capitalize on your own passion, hobby or interest and turn it into a profitable internet business. You can monetize your passion/hobby/interest on the internet in 3 ways: Product, Service or Affiliating. For example:

Product: If your passion is playing a guitar, create an online course with the benefit of learning to play guitar tunes within 30 minutes or less.

Service: If you enjoy graphic or web design, market yourself and offer your skills online.

Affiliate: If you enjoy Italian cooking, create a content-filled website of your favourite Italian dishes and ‘refer’ your readers to Italian cooking-related products.

The 3 illustrations above are minor examples of how you can capitalize off of your passion or hobby. Of course, you’d have to evaluate your niche and analyse your competition before diving in. Remember, if you’d like to dig deep into what kind of online business you want to get into, find your true passion/hobby/interest, do your online research, and the rest will follow through.
